Boxing for Cancer Research

Chris is taking part in Ultra White-Collar Boxing in aid of Cancer Research UK this Sunday at the De Vere hotel in Blackpool.

Chris will be joining a group of first-time boxers who have trained for the past eight weeks at Pure Impact Muay Thai Boxing Gym in Blackpool under the training of local fighter Will Goldie-Galloway.

This Wednesday fighters will be paired up with their opponents and will be fairly matched based on weight, fitness, ability & age from the group they have trained with to ensure a fair competitive bout. Each fight will have three, two minute rounds of boxing.

Each participant has pledged to raise at least £50 for Cancer Research UK, with many raising hundreds for the charity.

Chris said, “At the beginning of the year I was looking for a new challenge to push myself, get fit and raise money for a good cause. I came across Ultra White-Collar Boxing and once I found out it was in aid of Cancer Research I signed up immediately.

“We all know someone who has battled with cancer and that’s why I wanted to help raise as much as possible for this amazing charity.

“It’s been a gruelling eight weeks training camp and at times really tough since I’ve never boxed before. However, there isn’t motivation quite like getting punched in the face every week by a sparring opponent to get fit enough to avoid it!

“Despite the ruthless training I’ve really enjoyed these last eight weeks. Everyone taking part has been amazing, cheering each other when we’ve been struggling, especially our trainer Will Goldie-Galloway who has been excellent. I know I couldn’t have done it without Will’s support and encouragement.

“I’m looking forward to finding out my opponent on Wednesday and what I’m sure will be a fantastic fight night on Sunday.”
