Low wages, low employment rates, high levels of benefit claimants, poor health and high exclusion rates from school mean that child poverty is unacceptably prevalent in our town, reaching a shameful 71.4%.
I, like many of the children around Blackpool I grew up with, were some of the million children the last Labour Government lifted out of poverty through the welfare system.
Whilst our MP voted to end free school meals, I raised over £14,000 to help ensure no child went hungry in Blackpool. Ending child poverty is a moral mission for me and I will continue to fight to ensure no child ever goes hungry.
