Paul Maynard MP’s plan to vote for an early holiday is a derogation of his duty to the people of Blackpool North and Cleveleys

Chris Webb, Labour’s candidate for Blackpool North and Cleveleys, has criticised Conservative MP Paul Maynard for supporting Theresa May’s plan for an early Parliamentary holiday.

The Government has tabled a Commons motion to bring forward the summer break several days early. MPs are expected to vote on the motion on Wednesday.

Labour’s Chris Webb said: “Paul Maynard MP is planning to vote to give himself an early summer holiday. It’s not just lazy – it’s a sneaky Westminster ruse to protect Theresa May from her own party’s self-inflicted chaos.

“I’m appalled. Paul Maynard just isn’t doing his duty to the people of Blackpool North and Cleveleys . Our fragmented rail system’s in chaos. We’ve got 4.5 million people on hospital waiting lists. We found out this morning that Theresa May has been cutting the police’s budget in real terms since 2015. We’re in the middle of negotiations that will determine our country’s fate for generations.

“And what are the Tories doing? Tearing each other to bits, and then voting for an early break – just to give themselves respite from their own spat. This isn’t a government, it’s a bad joke.”
