A joint statement from Chris Webb MP & Lorraine Beavers MP in solidarity with the trans community 🏳️‍⚧️

We stand with the trans community

In light of the recent publication of the EHRC’s updated Code of Practice, we want to reiterate our unconditional and unwavering support for the trans community.

The narrowing of legal definitions will not only harm the trans community – it will also endanger anyone who does not fit into perceived criteria of how a gender ‘must’ look or behave.

This risks furthering division between communities and may lead to unfair persecution of the LGBTQ+ community as a whole.

The worsening of living standards over recent years for those in the queer community is reflected in the UK’s ranking on ILGA-Europe’s Rainbow Map – where we were once at the top of the list, we are now 22nd. The EHRC ruling has directly contributed to this decline in the rankings.

Our trans friends and family members deserve to live free and peaceful lives, not to be scrutinised at every turn. Blackpool has long been a haven for LGBTQ+ people seeking not just escape, but acceptance, and the town thrives on its strong sense of community.

We will stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBTQ+ community and allies at Blackpool Pride next week and every day of the year.
