Brand new sports facilities for Blackpool South

Blackpool South is getting two brand new PlayZones – safe, inclusive and accessible outdoor facilities that bring communities together through recreational forms of football and a range of other sports.

The Government has announced grants totalling over £520,000 though the Multi-Sport Grassroots Facilities Programme to deliver these fantastic facilities to both Fishers Field and Boundary Park.

PlayZones are a project led by the Football Foundation with support from the FA and the UK Government. But community engagement is at the heart of this programme. Facilities will be designed in partnership with local communities to ensure that the final design and surface works for football and other sports and activities identified for that area. The spaces are available for community use day and night, all year round.

Although the investment is football-led, other sports and activities will benefit from the facilities. PlayZones are designed not only for recreational football, but a whole host of other sports and activities, from basketball to netball, rugby, hockey, cricket and more.

The Multi-Sport Programme also saw the announcement of a small pot of money to fund new goal posts from Stanley Park, which I know the community will enjoy.

We've seen how sport can bring communities together and I’m excited to see the impact these fantastic facilities will have on the areas of Highfield and Grange Park – and to make the most out of them with my son!
