Delivering real change for Blackpool South
When I was elected to represent Blackpool South, I made a clear promise – to be the most visible, active, and accessible MP our town has ever had. One year in, I want to share exactly what we’ve achieved – and why it matters.
From day one, I hit the ground running. Blackpool deserves a champion at the heart of government, and we’ve already secured over £66m million in additional funding for public health, homelessness, regeneration and investing in our future.
Inside Parliament, I’ve raised Blackpool’s voice loudly and often – asking 34 questions in the House of Commons, delivering nine speeches and sending over 140 letters to ministers to address the issues that matter to our community. But it's not just about speaking up – it's about getting results. I’ve met with ministers 17 times to push for concrete action on everything from NHS dentists to knife crime.
Equally important is the work I do here on the ground. Over the past year, I’ve handled more than 6,000 individual constituents’ cases – helping people with housing, healthcare, benefits and more, and held over 400 surgery appointments. I’ve held public Q&As, knocked on doors and organised Blackpool’s biggest ever jobs fair – connecting locals with over 1,500 job opportunities.
Informed by conversations with residents, I published a report on child poverty that is now influencing national policy. As Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Hospitality and Tourism and Vice Chair on Mental Health, I’m helping shape debates that directly affect our town.
But politics isn’t only about policy – it’s about compassion. That’s why I donate 10% of my salary to local charities and why I’ve worked with local partners to deliver over 1,100 tins of baby formula to local families in need.
I was born in Blackpool, I’m raising my family here, and I want to see our town thrive. We’ve laid strong foundations in this first year – but there’s so much more to do. I’m more determined than ever to keep delivering for Blackpool South.
Together, we can build a better Blackpool.
