My Christmas Card Competition Winners

Yesterday morning, before heading off to Parliament, I had some very special visits to make!

I visited Stanley, Roseacre, St Nicks and St Cuthbert’s primary schools to hand deliver Christmas Cards.

Children from these schools entered my Christmas Card competition and, after selecting the winning design for the front cover, and runners up to feature on the inside and back page, I surprised the final design and prizes. Every child who entered also received a letter from me.

Huge Congratulations to Connie from year 6 at Stanley Primary, whose winning painting conjured a nostalgic Christmas scene in Blackpool. The rich detail, the sparkle of glitter and the warm glow of festive lights transported me to her realised vision.

I loved her depiction of Blackpool Tower and Santa riding the Big One was a fantastic touch! There is a timeless quality in her artwork, and a sense of community and wonder that perfectly captures the spirit of the season and of our town.

Nirushiga, from Roseacre, came a close second. Her choice of setting really caught my eye. The Winter Gardens gives a strong sense of place and picturing Santa there with Rudolph was such a fun idea – as if they have just paused their journey just to take in the winter scene in Blackpool.

And the range of ideas and fantastic execution from children of all primary school ages was so impressive. It was such a hard job to pick these runners up!

My Christmas card will now be sent to parliamentary colleagues, community partners and friends over the coming days, including to the Prime Minister and the King, who I’m sure will both be very impressed by the level of talent among children here in Blackpool.

Huge thanks and well done to all the children who entered. Wishing them all a very merry Christmas filled with fun and festive magic.
