My response to the Autumn Budget

This Budget takes the fair choices to deliver on the public's priorities and the change this government promised.

Measures outlined in the budget will ease the pressure of the cost of living on families in Blackpool South.

Households across Great Britain will save around £150 off energy bills next year and millions will benefit from the expanded Warm Home Discount. On top of this, the freeze on NHS prescriptions and rail fares and an extended freeze on fuel duty freeze will help families in Blackpool South manage rising costs.

Significantly, the decision to finally scrap the Tory’s two-child benefit cap will benefit an estimated 3,950 children living here. Nationally, it is projected to reduce relative child poverty by 450,000 by the end of the decade.

Since my election, I have been calling for this punitive policy to be removed and it is heartening to see the government act.

I will continue to push for further support for our community. These measures mark an important milestone but we must not stop until everyone in Blackpool South has the security and opportunity they deserve.
