Secretary of State to join me at Blackpool Jobs Fair 2026

I’m delighted to tell you that the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Pat McFadden, had accepted my invitation to open my Jobs Fair this month.

After months of hard work and preparation from my team and local Jobscentre staff, Blackpool Jobs Fair – the biggest the town has ever seen – returns to the Winter Gardens Conference Centre on Thursday 26 February 2026.

The Secretary of State has agreed to open the event hot off the news that his department is launching a new mobile jobs centre service in our town to break down the barriers that stop people finding good work. After opening the event he’ll spend time speaking with local employers and jobseekers on the day.

Secretary of State for Work and Pensions Pat McFadden

By accepting my invitation the Secretary of State is showing us in Blackpool that that helping local people into secure, well-paid work is a national priority.

I’m hosting the Jobs Fair in partnership with Jobcentre Plus and with support from Blackpool Tourism Ltd and it will bring together major employers, training providers and community organisations so local people can access real opportunities, including jobs available on the day.

Last year’s event showed what’s possible when we put the right support in one place. Over 4,000 jobseekers came through the doors, more than 1,500 job opportunities were available from 100 different employers and around 1,000 jobs were secured.

We’re going even bigger this year, with over 120 employers offering around 2,000 local jobs. There will be entry-level roles, but also clear routes into skilled and long-term careers, including trades, health and social care, manufacturing and engineering, hospitality and tourism management, public sector careers, apprenticeships and retraining, digital and financial services.

There will also be wrap-around support on the day including CV workshops, employability training, careers advice, mental health and wellbeing support, and guidance on further education and apprenticeships.

Blackpool has been held back for too long by low wages and seasonal work. I’m working to change that by connecting people with proper jobs, real skills and long-term prospects. This fair is now an annual fixture and a key part of my plan to boost pay, career progression and economic growth across our town.

Employers confirmed for 2026 include the NHS, North West Ambulance Service, Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service, Lancashire Police, Blackpool Council, Blackpool and The Fylde College, Northern Rail, Victrex, Johnson & Johnson and Fox’s Biscuits.

Whether you’re just starting out in your working life, looking for a fresh challenge, or ready to take the next step in your career, there will be something for everyone – don’t miss it!
