Typhoon deal secures thousands of jobs for the Fylde Coast

I’m proud to share this personal note from the Prime Minister following months of work pushing for new Typhoon orders. This is more than just a defence deal – it’s jobs, skills and livelihoods here on the Fylde Coast, across Lancashire and the UK.

Türkiye has agreed to buy 20 UK Typhoon jets in the biggest fighter jet export deal in a generation. The agreement is worth £8 billion and will secure around 20,000 highly skilled jobs across the UK, including around 6,000 at BAE Systems in Warton and Samlesbury, where components of the planes are manufactured. Other parts of the UK benefit too, with Rolls-Royce in Bristol and Leonardo in Edinburgh playing key roles.

I’m dedicated to standing up for working people in Blackpool. Seeing this deal go through means our aerospace heritage is protected and the next generation of British engineers have real opportunities on their doorstep.

And this is work we can be proud of. It will pump billions of pounds into our economy and keep British Typhoon production lines turning long into the future but it goes far beyond the procurement of aircraft. It is the leading edge of the growing defence and industrial partnership between our two nations.

Türkiye is an important NATO ally and the gatekeeper to the Black Sea. By equipping them with top-of-the-range Typhoon fighter jets, the deal will strengthen NATO deterrence and help make us all safer.

I’m proud that my efforts helped get this deal over the line. With continued focus, investment and ambition, we can secure even more jobs and future-proof our communities.
