A year of record investment for Blackpool
Since my election a year ago I’ve worked with the Labour government to channel unprecedented funding into Blackpool – tackling inequality, upgrading infrastructure and investing in our people. Here’s some of what’s been delivered so far, and what it means for our town’s future.
£21.5M for public health
Blackpool has received a public health grant of £21.5 million – a major investment in helping residents live longer, healthier lives. The funding will support vital services including smoking cessation, addiction recovery, health protection and children’s wellbeing programmes. This is part of our mission to close the health gap and build a healthier future for every resident.
£17.7m increase in council funds
Blackpool Council received core spending power of £196 million for 2024/25, rising to £213.7 million in 2025/26. The 9.1% increase is the highest percentage rise for any town in the country – showing that this government is serious about tackling deep-rooted regional inequalities.
£15.4m for the town centre
The government committed £15.4 million to improve transport in Blackpool Town Centre – supporting better traffic flow, new cycle routes, and safer pedestrian access. This investment will unlock local growth and boost our economy.
£4M to improve buses
More than £4 million has been secured to upgrade local bus services. This includes enhanced cleaning, improved reliability, better shelters and more frequent buses – making public transport more accessible, efficient and sustainable for all.
£2.86m to tackle homelessness
This money will support homelessness prevention, services for rough sleepers and reduce the need for temporary accommodation – £875,000 more than last year. This is a vital lifeline for those in crisis and the organisations that support them.
£2.3m to fix potholes
Potholes have long been a local issue – and now we’re addressing them properly. Blackpool has been allocated £609,000 more than under the Tories to repair roads – supporting safer streets for everyone.
£1,038,900 for Family Hubs
Blackpool will benefit from £1 million in early years funding, part of a national boost to help children get the best start in life. This will strengthen the brilliant work already happening in our Family Hubs – including pregnancy support, parenting classes and infant feeding advice.
£650,000 for coastal erosion
Protecting our coastline is vital for residents, businesses and future generations. That’s why we’ve secured £650,000 for the Blackpool Beach Nourishment Scheme – part of Labour’s record £2.65 billion national investment in flood defences and climate resilience.
£600,000 community recovery
Following last year’s violent disorder, I secured a £600,000 community recovery fund. The money has now been allocated to community groups and projects to improve community cohesion, clean ups and repair, and to improve community security and communications.
£200,000 for hospice care
Every person deserves dignity and comfort at the end of life. That’s why we’ve delivered £200,000 to support Trinity Hospice’s essential care work – ensuring that those with terminal illness, and their families, receive the compassion and support they need.
