The Chancellor must support Tourism and Hospitality
As Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Hospitality and Tourism, I’ve led colleagues from across Parliament, to call for urgent action to support one of the UK’s most vital industries.
We’ve written to the Chancellor calling for urgent support for our local pubs, family-run hotels, visitor attractions and night-time venues. Hospitality and tourism are at the heart of our communities and our economy – employing 3.5 million people and contributing £93 billion each year. But businesses across the country are telling us that rising costs and an unfair tax system are holding them back.
We’re urging the Government to deliver meaningful reform of business rates, ensure a fair approach to employer National Insurance contributions and review the case for a reduction in VAT for hospitality and tourism in line with our European neighbours.
These changes would give businesses the confidence to invest, create jobs and revitalise high streets and town centres in every part of the UK.
Hospitality isn’t just about great food, hotels, and days out – it’s about opportunity, community and pride in place. With the right framework, it can once again be at the heart of Britain’s growth story.
I hope the Chancellor listens carefully to the voices of those who keep our hospitality and tourism sector thriving and gives them the support they need in the upcoming Budget.
