One year since Labour won the general election, major investment in neighbourhood policing will transform safety on Blackpool’s streets.

For too long, places like Blackpool have been forced to operate under a broken and outdated system – one that penalised deprivation, overlooked coastal economies and left local councils struggling just to keep the lights on. That changes now.

There have been so many incredible moments during my first year as your MP. As the one year mark approaches since Labour’s win in the 2024 general and I reflect on the past 12 months.

Last week I stood up in Parliament and asked the Prime Minister an important question: when will young people in Blackpool finally get the decent jobs they deserve – here in their hometown?

It’s not every day that the country’s top health official visits our town. Wes Streeting came with a plan – one that I’ve been pushing hard for in Parliament, and now, we’re finally being heard.

It’s been just over a year since I had the honour of becoming your Member of Parliament and in that time my team and I have worked relentlessly to deliver for Blackpool South.

On the back of millions of a huge wave of investment in our town since Labour took office, it’s further recognition that this Government understands that if Blackpool succeeds, Britain succeeds.

Blackpool South is getting two brand new PlayZones – safe, inclusive and accessible outdoor facilities that bring communities together through recreational forms of football and a range of other sports.

These are places that are furthest from achieving the government’s five missions on health, education, crime, skills and prosperity – and they represent every corner of my constituency.

I spoke in the House of Commons about Louise, a single mum in Blackpool South, who had to watch her 4-year-old son suffer in agony, unable to access dental care. Her story is heartbreaking but sadly not unique.

Beyond the rainbow flags and festivities lies something deeper – a radical history of working-class joy and queer defiance.

I welcome this decision – but I urge the government to accelerate our efforts to ensure that every child has access to nutritious meals, irrespective of their background.

Millions more in new investment has been confirmed for our town – funding that will directly improve the lives of people across Blackpool South.

In Parliament, I spoke about the heartbreaking reality of the mental health crisis facing children and young people in Blackpool.

When I was elected a year ago, I promised to deliver better jobs and better wages for Blackpool. That wasn’t just a slogan – it was a commitment to real change. One year in, I’m proud to see that promise coming to fruition through stories like Adam’s.

This National Numeracy Day, I want to shine a light on an issue that affects thousands of people in Blackpool – our confidence with numbers.

It was an honour to speak at the RMT’s LGBT+ Members’ Conference here in Blackpool last week – a town that’s always been a little louder, a little brighter, and a little prouder than most.

Since my election a year ago I’ve worked with the Labour government to channel unprecedented funding into Blackpool – tackling inequality, upgrading infrastructure and investing in our people.

Thanks to the Labour Government’s new £102 million programme to upgrade GP surgeries across England, Newton Drive is one of four practices on the Fylde Coast set to benefit.
